Pilgrimage to Nana
The drawing was made first as a pilgrimage I made from my home over the course of ninety kilometers to my grandmother’s. The purpose was to dedicate a period of physical exertion and meditation to my grandmother who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. After drawing the line in the world with my body I decided to have the work permanently inscribed into my left arm along a major arterial vein. Ideally this work is intended to be shown alongside the original video documentation of the pilgrimage itself. The drawing is presented below in a large format to emphasize the scale of the journey itself.
My Grandmother, Laura Chartrand passed away in January, 2013, after the cancer had spread throughout her body.
